Understanding Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

Social Security Disability Insurance pays monthly cash benefits to people who have paid enough FICA taxes to qualify and who are now unable to work for a year or more because of a disability. After a waiting period, SSD eligibility allows you to receive Medicare benefits – even if you are under age 65.
